Born in London in 1867, Rackham confirmed his calling when he illustrated a popular edition of Grimm’s Fairy Tales shortly followed shortly after by The Legend of Sleepy Hollow and Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens – a proper beginning for an artists who would draw readers into the realms of myth, legend, and fairies for the rest of his life.
This is what the Carole-Anne has to say:
“My name is Carole-Anne Eschenazi. I’ve always been very fond of heroes. I’ve always found in their stories or in their paths the deepest inspiration. I would simply wonder: ‘What would Scarlett O’Hara, or Cyrano de Bergerac, or Peter Pan, or Cleopatra, do in my situation?’. The answers often provided ways to resolve my problems. Therefore, my favourite heroes soon became companions for me, and even coaches in a way. Being also a tarot lover and collector, the desire to create a tarot deck using universal heroes slowly grew in my mind. I began working on it. Then one night, as I was writing with my beloved cat, Caline, sleeping on my knees, an idea spring suddenly: why not convert all of my heroes into.. cats? That’s how this deck was born. All those cat heroes are here to give you any advice you may need. They will escort you and will help you reveal the one true hero that lies inside of yourself.”

The Bulgarian illustrators Iassen Ghiuselev (the major arcana) and Atanas Atanassov (the minor arcana) were inspired by the great Renaissance master Leonardo da Vinci in creating this deck which, through the immortal images of the Italian artist, has a profound symbolic and artistic significance.
