Size: 70 x 110 mm, 78 cards
The Crowley Thoth Tarot was created by the famous occultist Aleister Crowley. Lady Frieda Harris painted the cards. Although Lady Harris knew little about Tarot and its symbolism, under the guidance of Crowley she transposed all subtleties of his ideas into her paintings.
The Crowley Thoth Tarot was first published in 1972, after the death of both Crowley and Lady Harris.
Klimt and his strong allegorical subjects inspired this Tarot designed by A.A. Atanassov. Every now and then a fundamental aspect of the artwork of the great Viennese artist emerges, or rather the revival of figurative and compositional aspects of Hellenic classicism. A revival with roots in the Nietzschean culture that indicates a return to the origin; that is, to that ancient Greek world where authentic aesthetic and ethical models can still be found uncontaminated.
The symbol inherent in this deck is perfectly coherent with that symbolist culture that also gave original to Klimt’s artwork. The pictorial images of the Viennese artist are, in fact, full of hermeticism: his works seem to be depictions of a mystery and even more so an expression of emotions and drives. And so Adorno and his Aesthetic Theory, which traces the essence of art to an enigma, comes to mind.
